From Britain to Blue Ridge – Mountainside Baroque
A concert and an exhibit that tracks the musical connections between the 17th and 18th century British Isles tradition and its inheritors in the Appalachian Mountains. Joining the group will be soprano Rebecca Beasley, fiddler Stephanie Raby and the multi-talented Keith Collins.

“Tower Music” Washington Cornett & Sackbutt Ensemble
Considered one of the premiere ensembles of its kind in North America, the Washington Cornett and Sackbutt Ensemble (WCSE), directed by Michael Holmes, consists of historic brass instrument specialists based in Washington DC, comprised what was the standard brass ensemble of the late Renaissance and early Baroque eras of Western music.

Newberry Consort – “Scaramella!” Song and Dances from 16th-Century Italy
The frottola was a wildly popular and extremely varied genre in Renaissance Italy, ranging from solo song to polyphony. The poetry covers everything from the ridiculous to the sublime, and the rhythms are infectious. A dance band of violin family instruments with lute and guitar are joined by acclaimed soprano Ellen Hargis.

This Festival performance will combine all the professional forces seen earlier in the week. Soloists and orchestra members from TENET, The Newberry Consort, The Washington Cornett and Sackbut Ensemble, and Hammerklavier, as well as additional soloists, and Mountainside’s resident choir, the Scholars of St. Cecilia, will combine forces for this gala performance in the Pealer Recital Hall at Frostburg State University.
